The Bonus of Gratitude

The gift of gratitude is a bonus for you, your clients, staff, family  and friends. When you feel grateful for these relationships in your life, you immediately feel better, even if you were already  feeling good!

Take it a step further and begin to share with others that you  are grateful they are in your life. Imagine how your relationships will be strengthened. Imagine how these people will feel as  you tell them....

~~”Amy, you are a great assistant. I’m grateful you are a part of my business.”

~~”John and Carol, I want you to know that I’m honored to know  you and grateful to have you as clients.”

~~”Dave, you are a good friend to me and I’m grateful to have  you in my life.”

~~”Mary, I’m so glad we married each other. I’m grateful to have you as my life partner.”

~~”Andrew, you give me such joy! I am so grateful you are  my son.”

Several months ago I was in a heated conversation with one of our children and we were both getting more frustrated by  the minute. Out of the blue, I said , “You know what?...I really love you and I’m grateful you are my daughter.”

Just like that the energy shifted. We stopped arguing and breathed in the moments of peace. Suddenly we were lifted from the place of no agreement to a place where agreement wasn’t as important as finding our way back to each other.

Oprah Winfrey declared on one of her TV shows that she found her way back to experiencing joy after she started a Gratitude Journal. Each day she committed to writing in her journal the 5 things she was grateful for that day.

Thanksgiving is just a few days away. I wonder what our lives would be like if we shared with 5 people this week our feelings of gratitude for them. Even if we have had disagreements with them...maybe, especially if we have had disagreements
with them?!

Share in person, send a card, make a call, schedule lunch, yes, even e-mail counts. Go ahead! You might even want to make this a new habit. Make a list of all the people you are grateful for and let them know!
